Manali is a town near Kullu in the Kullu district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at the northern end of the Kullu valley, which is formed by the Beas river. The town is located in the Kullu district, approximately 270 km north of the state capital Shimla and 544 km northeast of the national capital New Delhi.

  • By Airplane – The nearest airport to Manali is Bhuntar. From there you can reach Manali by bus after paying a distance of 50 km.
  • Train – If traveling to Manali by train, the nearest railway station is Manali. From there you can reach Manali by road transport.
  • Bus- Buses run from Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Shimla, Dharmashala & Chamba to Manali, and Deluxe, Semi-Deluxe, AC, and Volvo buses are plying on these routes. Therefore, tourists can easily reach Manali.

1.   Solang Valley

This place is very attractive for snow sports lovers. Located at a distance of 12 km from Manali city, this place can be reached in about 30 minutes travel time from Manali. The period from January to March is ideal for snow sports and skiing during the snowfall and paragliding when the snowfall is over. Here you can see some places to start paragliding. Depending on the height of the starting point, the price ranges from INR 1000-5000 per person.

One thing you should remember when visiting here is that people have died due to the accidents that happened here while going for snow sports and it is up to you to play with caution.

2.   Hadimba Temple

Hadimba Temple, located at a distance of about 2 km from Manali, is also known as Hidimba Devi Temple, Dhungari Temple. Belonging to the Kullu district, this place is located in the Himachal region of North India. Built-in 1553, this temple consists of a 4-storied stupa (pagoda) and a wooden carved facade. This place was built to worship Goddess Hadimba, the wife of Bima. In addition to this, every year in the middle of May, a three-day festival is held here, and for that, all the local residents of the area around Manali participate in this.

3.   Old Manali

Old Manali is the old city of Manali at a distance of about 3 km from Manali city. Especially here you can see the characteristics of an old town consisting of traditional old houses. Located at one end of the Manaslu River, this town has one main street. This street is very popular among tourists and is an ideal place to buy souvenirs for those visiting old Manali.

4.   Rohtang Pass

Just like Solang Valley, this place is famous for snow and is about two hours from Manali.

Rohtang Pass, a popular winter destination in India, is a haven for adrenaline junkies. This is considered a favorite place for nature lovers and photographers. It is accessible from Lahaul and Spitr regions during summer and is closed from November till the end of winter when there is heavy snowfall. At this place, tourists can enjoy adventure activities like skiing, paragliding, and trekking


It is extremely attractive at an elevation of 3979 meters above sea level. From here, you can see majestic mountains, glaciers, the Lahaul Valley, and the Chandra River.

5.   Jogini Water Falls 

Jogni, also known as Jugni Waterfalls is the best place to go if you want to go on a trek to one of the remote and untouched places to visit in Manali. It belongs to Vashist village and is located at a distance of 4 km from Manali. It can be reached by a short drive on a breathtaking road through the hills. The Jogini Waterfall is a 160-foot stream that cascades down the hills into the Beas River and Kullu Valley below. There are small restaurants and guest houses along this route, so you can enjoy a delicious Indian meal before or after your bath.

6. Manikaran

Located in the Parvati Valley, about 80 km from Manali, this place is a place of worship for both Hindus and Sikhs. It houses the Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib, a shrine of Sri Guru Nanak Dev, and hot springs. There are many legends associated with this place.

7. Hamta Pass

The Hampta Trekking route is one of the unique treks in the Himachali terrain. It offers the most contradicting landscapes, which are a genuine shock to the system. When you reach the summit of Hampta Pass, you are welcomed into a different world.

Known as a very popular place among mountaineers, this place is located at a distance of about 20 km from Manali. Permission from the SDM office in Manali is essential to visit this place.

8. Manali Gompa

A famous Buddhist monastery, it was built in 1960 by Tibetan refugees. Apart from the name Manali gompa, this place is also known as Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa. This place has a statue of Buddha and decorative murals, although it is a small place, it is very famous for its spiritual energy.

9. Manali Nature Park

Surrounded by natural beauty, this place is located at a distance of 2 km from Manali. Surrounded by deodar trees, here you can spot Himachal’s national bird, the Manual Pheasant. Surrounded by tall trees like deodar and maple.

In fact, some legends place a high value on the fact that the current temple is the exact location where sage Manu would meditate on a regular basis.

Unlike the other temples that stood alongside it, this one was never built for those who wear their hearts on their sleeves. To get to the shrine, you must traverse a narrow road, which appears to be nothing short of a thrilling adventure. However, adventurers will enjoy this location.
